Assignments:
This is a ONE TERM class, following the general format of monthly lessons with corresponding assignments and extra-credit opportunities. There will be no final exam, though there will be a class project---be forewarned. (Oh come on, it won't be that bad!)
I like variety (who doesn't, right? Well, unless you are a Percy Weasley clone, but we won't go there), so the assignments will give you a number of opportunities to pick and choose whatever suits your fancy of the moment. Look for the typical fill-in-the-blank and multiple choice type garden-variety questions, as well as thought provoking (hopefully) short answer/essays. The extra credit will be a mix of creative writing, artistic, and research--so pick your poison at your own pleasure.
In order to pass the class, you have to bake me lots of cookies (What?! I'm a sucker for cookies!!) AND, more importantly, earn a total of AT LEAST 150 points out of 300 allotted to the class for the term.
Assignments should be sent to [email protected]. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either myself (Ariella McManus) or my assistant (Lavinia Rookwood) via HOL message or the class email.
Late Assignments:
I understand completely that real life has a pesky habit of popping up and getting in the way of things; Merlin knows it's caught me more than once. So no harm, no foul there. Assignments are usually due at the end of the month; all I ask is that if you know you need an extension, please let me or Lavinia know. This way I don't have to worry that the mummies have taken you captive or something dreadful like that! There will be no extension on the final due date, just a fair warning in advance.
Quills and Grading:
One quill will be awarded at the end of the term for the entire course. Quills will be given to those students who have successfully completed the requisite 150 points worth of assignments (extra credit counts, yanno!)
Awards will be handed out to those diligent students who manage to get maximum points as well as other 'special' awards to those who bake the best cookies! Just kidding, of course. There will be other 'specialized' awards given--just not for cookies.
Uhem-T (Storyteller Award): Awarded to the person with the best 'storytelling' abilities as judged by extra-credit assignments in this category.
Priest of Thoth: Awarded to the person with the best 'research' abilities as judged by extra-credit assignments in this category.
Priest of Ptah: Awarded to the person with the best 'graphic' abilities as judged by extra-credit assignments in this category.
High Priest: Awarded to those persons who manage to receive the maximum number of points (300) for the class. That means doing all of the extra credit and all of the assignments or the project to make up the difference. You really need to work for this one!!
Tomb Raider: Awarded to those persons who manage to score between 200-299 points for the class. A job well worthy of praise as you went above and beyond the minimum, but darned if that mummy's curse didn't stop you from reaching the "Inner Sanctum" of the High Priest. Still pretty durned impressive if you ask me..you showed those mummies who was boss!!!
Of Utmost Importance:
Please remember that Egyptian Mythology is an HOL class, and thus HOL rules apply. So be respectful, mind your P's and Q's (No clue what that means but it sounded all 'teacher' like so I went with it!), and we should get along just fine. Remember, too, that just as real life zaps you from time to time, I am not invincible to it either, so while lessons are scheduled to go up at the first of every month, if I am a few days late, please bear with me. I promise, I have my anti-mummy charms all ready and should be just fine, so barring some epic disaster (or Lavinia gets us lost out here in the desert), I will get them to you as soon as humanly possible.
